Hi, I'm Colours. Welcome to my Star Emperor guide. I've played the Taekwon class in different Pre-renewal servers, mostly as a BG barricade breaking Taekwon Ranker, but also as a Star Gladiator (or Taekwon Master as I prefer to call it). While I am very familiar with how the class works, I by no means proclaim to be the best, though I definitely try :)

This guide will be based on NovaRO and may or may not be relevant to any other particular server. Recommended equipment here is what's currently available on NovaRO or is what should be coming to it based on official kRO updates.

This guide is best viewed with a high resolution.

Overview

Star Emperor is the 3rd job in the Taekwon line. Star Emperors excel at dealing massive damage in short periods of time. Damage dealt can vary and partying up in large parties is recommended for maximum damage due to the passive Taekwon skill, Kihop. This class is mostly self sufficient and can survive solo with proper gears.

It is imperative that players understand how the Taekwon and Star Gladiator classes work to understand the damage potential of a Star Emperor as Taekwon's Kihop and various Star Gladiator skills directly affect the damage potential.

Essential Taekwon Skills

Skill Notes
411.png Running Run in a straight line to get by faster or to avoid players. Immediately re-use running to enable spurt status if barehanded. While in spurt status, you get +10 barehand attack for every level of spurt. Use Flying Side Kick while running for extra FSK damage and even more damage if you're weaponless.
426.png Leap Incredibly useful skill to get out of tight situations and to leap over walls on most maps. Optional skill, but Max it out if you choose it.
421.png Flying Side Kick This skill is best to confuse and move between players and can also remove soul links. Flying side kick damage has a significant boost in power when used while running.
420.png Tumbling Tumbling has a high chance to block many skills. This skill can save your butt. Use Flying Side Kick when Tumbling activates to attack with immense power.

Understanding Perception and Opposition Skills

Perception: A Star Gladiator/Emperor can 'memo' 3 maps. 1 for Solar, 1 for Lunar and 1 for Stellar. All related skills will work on the same type of map i.e. Solar Heat works on the map you designated as Solar. It is possible to designate the same map as Solar, Lunar and Stellar.

Opposition: Mark and align a monster as Solar, Lunar and Stellar based upon their size and/or Max HP. Once marked, these monsters (regardless of what map they are on) receive extra damage with the passive Solar, Lunar and Stellar Wrath skills depending on your Solar, Lunar and Stellar Wrath levels (max these out!). When used in a PvP setting, you can mark 3 different types of classes without the need to pay attention to size and HP requirements. So you can mark Sura as Solar, Gene as Lunar, etc..

Understanding Heat Skills

Solar, Lunar and Stellar Heat is usable on designated alignment maps i.e. Solar Heat works on the map you designated as Solar. Heat will work against any mob on that map that you set for Solar-It is not limited to only your designated Solar opposition monster. Push normal mobs against a wall to hit monster many times a second over. Boss protocol monsters cannot be pushed back, so you can hit many times per second without needing to push the monster against a wall.

Understanding Solar, Lunar and Stellar Protection (and Blessing) Skills

Solar, Lunar and Stellar Protection are calendar based skills. Yes, this means they only work on certain days.

Solar Protection only works on a Solar day. A Solar day is an even numbered day. If today was October 2nd, Solar protection would be usable as 2 is an even number. If today was October 13th, Solar Protection would not work as 13 is not an even number.

Lunar Protection only works on a Lunar day. A Lunar day is an odd number day. If today was October 3rd, Lunar protection would be useable as 3 is an odd number. If Today was October 12th, Lunar Protection would not work as 12 is an even number.

Stellar Protection only works on a Stellar day. A Stellar day is a day that is a multiple of 5. If today was October 5th, Stellar Protection would be useable as 5 is a multiple of 5 (5, 10, 15, etc..). If today was October 6th, Stellar Protection would not work as 6 is not a multiple of 5.

You can bypass calendar day restrictions by proc'ing Miracle, which allows use of all protections while Miracle is active.

Solar, Lunar, and Stellar Miracle

"As the Star Gladiator wanders the land and gazes at the sky, a blessing unlike any other may be endowed upon him. Solar, Lunar, and Stellar Miracle will grant the Star Gladiator the ability to use all Solar, Lunar, and Stellar-aligned skills on any map on any day of the week. The moon will eclipse the sun and the stars will shine brightly, making the world around the Star Gladiator go dark (the effect is similar to the darkness caused by a Soul Link). Offensive and supporting skills are stacked as well."

This is a special passive Star Gladiator skill that can activate by low chance with every attack. The effect lasts for one hour and disappears if the player logs off or switches maps. Despite having a low chance to activate, it procs very often and can last more than 1 hour if you happen to proc it while already proc'd. The easiest way to activate it is to use SLS warmth on a mob along with a warm wind element that deals the least amount of damage to the monster, allowing you to constantly hit the mob when pushed against a wall until it procs. This skill is incredibly useful and is highly recommended to activate. You will notice a significant damage increase when it procs as once activated, wrath damage bonuses apply to any mob on the map.

While this buff is active, every single physical attack has a 10% ~ 15% chance of dropping a star on a Star Token engraved target within a 5x5 around you. The star fall deals 200% ~ 800% ATK physical melee damage to the target and enemies in a 5x5 area surrounding them. Star fall damage is increased by base level.

  • 2582.png Nova Explosion: For 5 seconds, remove the skill cool down and the skill usage penalty of Nova Explosion.
  • 2581.png Advent of the Star Emperor: Gain 2 defensive spheres that last for 30 seconds and have a durability equal to your MaxSP. All damage received is blocked by the spheres until their durability reaches 0, and excess damage from one attack will not carry over.

2591.png Solar DPS Revised for L185 Patch Update


Solar Burst is the most in-demand and most powerful build for PvM. It can be spammed faster than Full Moon Kick and has more consistent damage than Falling Star, but has a high sp cost comparatively. The goal is to alternate spam between Prominence Kick and Solar Burst as fast as possible. High STR, mid ASPD and balanced DEX/LUK are where you want to place your stats. Solar Burst is highly dependent on skill delay reduction gears for faster spam. Your options are either: ATK gears, after cast delay reduction gears or a hybrid of both. Solar Burst gears are some of the most expensive gears you can find in the game; it's highly recommended to start your journey in a Lunar build to level up, then, progress to a Stellar build to finance your way to a Solar Build.


No matter which gear route you take, NovaRO's custom Turbo options are required to spam effectively with Solar burst, so you need to ensure it is enabled.

To Enable:

Click on NovaExt settings icon in the lower right of the NovaRO Patcher:

Then set your preferred keys to use. Keep in mind that Prominence Kick and Solar Burst must be set to the following options:

  • Prominence Kick: Smart Cast
  • Solar Burst: Turbo


Full ATK-based gear Stats

  • STR 120-125
  • AGI 60-100
  • VIT 90-100
  • INT 1
  • DEX 90-100
  • LUK 90-100

Spamming Prominence Kick and Solar burst at a marginally decent ASPD with ATK% based equipment is the goal of this build. Solar Burst spamming will be dramatically slower than an after cast delay reduction build set; sacrificing for higher damage output per burst. A balance of LUK/DEX will help increase Wrath damage. 120 STR is needed for Temporal STR Boots [1] ATK boost or, alternatively, 125 STR for YSF01 Plate [1] ATK bonuses. Get between 60 - 90 AGI to reach a decent ASPD. Feel free to adjust stats depending on your gear. AGI, VIT and INT can be tweaked to your liking, but Keep STR at 120 or 125. Increasing INT will help slightly reduce the pain of quick SP drain. You can reduce LUK and increase DEX to increase spammability at a higher cost of stat points. Hawkeye enchanted Temporal STR Boots [1] will help increase Prominence/Solar spam when proc'd.


YSF01 Armor: The YSF01 armor on NovaRO is custom and bonuses are applied at a +5, +7 and +9 refine. Spamming Prominence Kick and Solar burst at a marginally decent ASPD with skill delay reduction equipment is the goal of this build. Solar Burst spamming will be significantly faster than an all ATK build set; sacrificing higher damage bursts for more bursts per second. A balance of LUK/DEX will help increase Wrath damage. 120 STR is needed for Temporal STR Boots [1] ATK boost or, alternatively, 125 STR for YSF01 Plate [1] ATK bonuses. 125 VIT is needed for YSF01 Manteau [1] After cast delay reduction. Get between 60 - 90 AGI to reach a decent ASPD. Feel free to adjust stats depending on your gear. AGI and INT can be tweaked to your liking, but Keep STR at 120 or 125. Increasing INT will help slightly reduce the pain of quick SP drain. You can reduce LUK and increase DEX to increase spammability at a higher cost of stat points. Hawkeye enchanted Temporal STR Boots [1] will help increase Prominence/Solar spam when proc'd. 193 ASPD is overkill for this build as even with the highest ASPD you are still dependent on the skill delay after all skill delay gears are taken into consideration. Aim for 185 to 189 ASPD without sacrificing necessary skill delay reduction gears.

Lunar DPS types are built around the usage of New Moon kick, Full Moon kick and Star Gladiator skills. This build will rely on your ability to withstand hits to deal damage. This is the best build to level up and/or farm certain mobs with as it doesn't require the most expensive gears to deal mid tier damage. STR/DEX/LUK are the most important stats for attack power and ATK % or flat ATK boosting items are best to increase dps.

New Moon Kick has a really bad fixed cast time, so you need to use Temporal DEX Boots [1] with 120 DEX to help reduce that fixed cast. What this means is that even with instacast/100% variable cast reduction, you will still have a cast for New Moon Kick that can only be reduced by fixed cast reduction items like Temporal DEX Boots [1] , Card Kiel D-01 Card and the AB skill Sacrament. Keep in mind that you cannot stack fixed cast time percent items, the highest cast reduction item will take precedence. You can stack flat fixed cast time reduction, however. LUK is used to boost Solar, Lunar and Stellar Wrath damage. General Moon strategy is to gather mobs, then drop New Moon and Full Moon kicks on the mobs. Be sure to take advantage of the fixed cast by casting New Moon a few cells away from your mobs to allow you to avoid getting hit before the skill goes off. In parties, ensure your AB is keeping Sacrament up to further reduce the New Moon fixed cast time. Temporal DEX Boots [1] and a +12 Giant Snake Skin [1] will help reduce fixed cast time without Sacrament. While leveling up, spamming New Moon kick can keep you cloaked as long as you are successful in hitting your mobs. This is a good way to level up until you have points placed into Full Moon Kick. Get 120 STR if you plan to use Card Brown Rat Card or 125 STR for YSF01 Plate [1] ATK bonuses.

My favorite PvM play style! This build is based on STR and ASPD for Falling Star Damage. Stacking ASPD % to get to 193 ASPD seems to be the best for SE as SG's Shadow of the Sun, Moon and Stars skill already has an 11% ASPD boost at max lvl (Stacks with ASPD % gear). Crit rate 100 isn't necessary, but a crit rate of 100 boosts skill damage, increasing Falling Star min/max damage (where most of your DPS comes from). Do not bother with any autocast gears as Flash Kick duration is very short and a spell autocast can add nasty skill delay, slowing down your ability to Flash Kick again. There are only a few autocast items that work well and don't add any skill delay, but you're better off adding ATK % or ASPD % instead. Feel free to reduce VIT and increase DEX and/or LUK for more wrath damage.

This Stellar build focuses on ASPD, ATK and LUK for Critical attacks. This build will boost critical damage and skill damage overall, but will not significantly boost Falling Star damage, therefore it is weaker than a pure Falling Star based build. This is useful for attacking high flee/def mobs or MVPs that use AGI UP.

This build is based on STR, ASPD and LUK for Crit and Heat Damage with decent Falling Star Damage. This build can be tweaked to reduce LUK and increase DEX (and AGI, if necessary). This will allow you to increase Wrath and Falling Stars damage. Balancing out DEX/LUK removes the ability to use Temporal LUK Boots. Temporal STR Boots ASPD/LD/HE/BM would be recommended in place of it.

These builds listed below have been tested in BG. They are just a starting point, adjust as necessary.

This Solar-Universe build goal is to alternate spam between prominence Kick and Solar Burst as fast as possible. High STR, ASPD and ATK are the staple stats. This is currently my favorite buildset for BG. While it's just as weak as the Stellar build for WoE/BG/PvP, it's incredibly strong and can take out weak opponents fast, especially if Glorious or Vellum weapons proc the ATK +200 buff.

Spamming Prominence Kick and Solar burst at a decent ASPD with skill delay reduction equipment is your goal. NovaRO's custom Turbo options are required to spam effectively. A balance of LUK/DEX will help increase Wrath damage, 120 STR needed for STR Temps' ATK boost and at least 90 AGI to reach a decent ASPD. Feel free to adjust stats as necessary but maintain 185 ASPD minimum. VIT and AGI can be tweaked to your liking, but Keep STR at 120 and DEX and LUK as balanced as possible. Hawkeye enchanted STR Temp boots will help increase Prominence/Solar spam when proc'd and are a necessity. In PvP scenarios, your goal is to wipe opponents as quickly as possible as this build is just as weak as a Stellar build for PvP--Solar Burst builds are Glass Cannons! +14 and up Vellum Encyclopedia or a +14 and up Glorious Tablet are required to quickly wipe your opponents. VM or Crimson can be used against players only if you are under Union.

Make sure to mark targets! Even though NovaRO has strangely banned nearly all Star Emperor skills; Solar, Lunar and Stellar Wraths still work on any map, including BG. These marked targets will be the easiest to wipe. Be cautious when marking tanky/reduct support classes, as even with increased damage to them, some are still tough to take down and you might be better off picking off strong, non-tanky class threats (Sura, WL, Ranger, Rebel, GX) using Wraths.

The goal of this build is to cloak with New Moon Kick and surprise attack with Moon Kick and (optionally) one-shot with Nova explosion. This build has high survivability with Max HP gears and high damage with ATK % gears. You can combine a mixture of both for a Hybrid Nova Explosion/Moon Kick build or you can opt to focus on high damage with Nova Explosion or Moon Kick. If you want to have the most Moon Kick damage, you can use ATK % gears. If you prefer to have the strongest Nova Explosion damage, you can use Max HP/SP gears. Stats can be tweaked with to increase VIT (Nova Explosion damage).

Stellar builds in BG/WoE/PvP are not as tanky as Moon/Nova builds, but are fast. This type of buildset is definitely not for everyone and could also be frustrating or not as satisfying as potentially one-shotting opponents with Nova Explosion, depending on your opposition (So keep that in mind). This build can actually destroy emperiums in BG, but survivability is very low. This build is only recommended if you can afford a +14 or better Ledger, which is kinda rare. Personally, I like to roll this in BG every now and then to go against the grain, knowing I will likely die wayyy more than any other build.

The goal of this build is to attack fast to crystallize, then mark and drop stars on your opponent. It's imperative that you have 193 ASPD for this build and thanks to NovaRO's use of +10 and +20 foods in BG/PvP, you should have no problem getting 193 ASPD in BG/PvP. You'll be using Universe stance rather than Star stance. This is to allow you to use Gravity Control to hold opponents and Book of Dimensions with Advent of the Star Emperor for brief immunity. Make sure to keep an eye on Book of Dimensions cooldown, as you need to make sure you have the sphere bonus you get with casting Advent after Book, it helps you survive greatly. You will also use New Moon Kick only for cloaking. This build is heavily reliant on crystallize, so you must have either a Ledger of Death [2] or Crimson Bible [2] with 2x Card Sropho card. A refine of +14 or higher is highly recommended and Ledger of Death [2] is preferred for ASPD bonus and the ability to coma opponents. You can get Nova explosion with this build, but cast time is abysmal and damage is pathetic with this build's gearset.

Whatever you do, DO NOT use Enhanced Ring of Flame Lord with this build at all. If you autocast Critical Explosion, your Immunity Spheres from Advent of the Star Emperor will disappear, lol.
